From the Port Bay area/central Lake Ontario we have been taking some mature Chinook salmon, with the occasional Coho salmon. Brown trout and Lake trout are also on the bite. From the fishermen and Charter Captains that I speak to everyday. While no big catches are taken everyday, if you spend the time on the Great Lake, you will come home with some big fish and some great memories. We have been taking fish from 100' depth of the lake all the way to 700' just by watching the temperature of the thermalcline. Several boats have been taking mature kings in 41.0 to 44.0 degree water, which is below the bait marking on the videograph. More oxygen in colder water, then the rise to feed. Just my theory!!!!! Also the smallmouth bass fishing has been second to none, you can use nightcrawlers, crawfish, or minnows, and even jigs. So pack up the family or get your fishing buddies together this weekend and enjoy more great Lake Ontario memories. Capt. Frank and Charlie DeNoto |
