| Salmon fishing remains good off the Salmon River. We fished in 100-120fow, and most our hits came close to the bottum. Slashers/tweenkie & fishcatchers/flies produced best. In 2 days we had 22 hits but only landed 12 kings. They are playing rough, hitting ripping out line then coming loose. Most of the fish hit out of preferred temperature(above the thermocline) this is a sure sign they should be heading in real soon. Break out the J-PLUGS baby |

| What do charter boat captains and guides do on their day off? WE FISH- well today we did anyway. We're fishing for a 1000 bucks and maybe, just maybe we can claim it. In other words we got a good one-14.2 kgs or 31.3 lbs. After boating a 33lber Sat. we thought it might be a good idea if we tried our luck at 1000$ a day fishin derby. Hopefully we can bring home the bacon. We caught the fish off the Salmon river in 110fow it hit 95 ft down on a meat rig, the same one the large one hit Sat. white/glow slasher w/blueglow twinkies. The twinkie king himself reeled it in (George Metzler). He asked me where we should go and I said to the same spot we worked Sat.(where we landed the 33lb slammer). It paid off we went 4 for 5 with 3 fish over 25 pounds including the 31lber. The fish were starting to darken. I will try to get a picture on my site asap- www.theriverguide.com |

| Report: Lake Ontario continues to produce consistent catchs of kings. Boats from Fairhaven to Henderson are reporting good fishing. We're right in the middle, here at Port Ontario. We landed 6 kings and lost several more off the Salmon river today. The fish slid in again to around 140-120fow and were coming anywhere from 70ft to 110ft down. With the thermalcline down around 80-90ft. Most boats did best in the early-mid morning. We were no exception with no hits after 10 Oclock-so get out early. The river will be flowing at 750cfs this weekend and i'm afaid it might suck up a some of fish (Coming sooner than later). Also coming soon (within a week or two) will be in depth reports on www.theriverguide.com so keep checking for the latest on the Salmon river and Lake Ontario. I'll keep posting here also. good fishin guys and keep safe out there its been pretty rough lately. |

| Lake Ontario keeps kickin butt, I talked to another charter captain today and they had 22 fish-19 kings, WOW that's killer fishing. They had only a few over 20lbs, but did have a 28lber. We went out for just a couple of hours and hit 10 boated 6, the largest being 24lbs. The fish slid back out to 200ft and were coming 105ft down mostly on cutbait. We were straight out from the Salmon River and had little company. Check out a picture of todays catch at www.theriverguide.com Good fishin |

| The Salmon river is running already(350cfs). A few early salmon are migrating the river, not suprising due to the cool temps and heavy run off. Off course the best fishing is still in deep water when you can get out. The weather has'nt coopperated out there this weeekend, but when it does the fishing should only get better thruoghout August. | Fishing off the Salmon river in 150-250ft of water is picking up. Swinging cut bait and howies down 100+ feet seems to do the magic. Looks like a bumber crop of kings will continue again this year! For more info check out www.theriverguide.com book now for best dates. |

The smallmouth bass action is getting off to a slow start with the heavy moss on shore, and the 62.0 temp. of the water. Good Luck, Capt Frank, and Capt. Charlie |

| For the past two weeks in the Port Bay region, Brown trout are being caught in 30-80' of water. On the planning boards, use 2-3 split shots. Downrigger fishing has been from 15-40' down. Very few salmon were taken this weekend. Smallmouth Bass opens Saturday and they have been on the bite. Good Luck, Capt. Frank |

| Im sorry for writing a message on a fishing report page, but i didn't know where else to go. Here's my question...We go fishing in Sodus Point every year, we only really get the chance to go in October, and have tried it every weekend, but really can't ever get into any fish. We fish off of the Pier by Sodus Bay, and i was just wondering if anyone who fishes in the area could send me an E-mail telling me when the best time to go and what the best bait/lure's are for catching Lake/Brown Trout. I look forward to getting a reply, my e-mail is Joshua033@hotmail.com, use Subject : Sodus Bay Fishing. Thank you very much! |

| For those of you planning to spend your hard earn $20 at the DSR for a day of fishing, think twice, they are interested only in your money and not your fishing experience. They will find a way to throw you out and keep your money so they can get more people in the lot. My true story is a judgement call, and splitting hairs in a definition of foul-hooked, that opinions of two NY State ENCON Officers are superceded by the "Experts of the DSR". You probably want the story so here I go. The question is what is legally hooked, i.e. "foul-hooked". The DSR has a staff of personnel hiding in the woods in camo with binoculars waiting for a opportunity to spring upon you and call your judgement in to question. Anytime someone in there sight catches and attempts to keeps a fish, they will approach and challenge you. My friend's fish was hooked about 2-3cm down, lower lip, from the top, outside lip "in the mouth". This was deemed by a "expert staff member" as foul-hooked. What they concider as "in the mouth" is "inside the mouth". NY STATE Law defines Foul-hooked: anything not hooked in the mouth. We were told we were breaking the law and told to leave. I refer to "we" because I netted the fish and my friend actually had the rod in his hand. We were both deemed guily of foul-hooking to the so called "Fishing Experts". This brought up the discussion of what the definition "in the mouth" is occording to NY STATE LAW. After being told to leave and "banned for life from the DSR", we stopped two NY State Envir. Consevation Officers and asked them what the deal is with "in the mouth". We were told that the mouth is any area above and below the opening, including lips, and outside. The officers asked us if we ever trolled for fish, "how many times have you hooked a fish on the outside of the mouth, (i.e. lip area) when the fish struck". Our fish was a legal catch in the eyes of the enforcers of the law. My point is, after talking to the NY ENCON Officers, then going back to the DSR, they(DSR Staff) told me the ENCON Officer "didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground and that they are spreading dis-information". If you make the mistake of fishing the DSR, be prepared to encounter an attitude of righteous indignation when your judgement does not match their's. You need to know more than the people who enforce the laws or they will take your $20 and then ask you to leave. You are better off spending your $20 on a good meal after a successful day of fishing the miles of uncompromised free access of the salmon river. |

| The salmon fishing off of Port Bay has been spotty. One day your a hero the next day your a zero. But I'm sure that rule holds true for most of the southern shoreline. The area to work for the mature salmon has been 75-125' of water. I've been catching most of my salmon on flashers and fly's. But last saturday a boat out of Sodus Bay was having a great morning using "28" size spoons. I think the whole secret to this game is put a lure in front of a hungry salmon and get ready to do battle !!!! Now for the important part. The strikes were coming 50'-75' down stretched back about 25' from the cannon ball. For the trophy bass fishermen reading this. We have been fishing 18-40' of water from Port Bay to Fair Haven, using nightcrawlers and minnows having the time of our lives catching these hungry little fish. There is more great weather predicted for this weekend, so pack up the family and head to Lake Ontario to create some memories. Capt. Frank DeNoto |

| Well the weather has been great for fishing Lake Ontario this past week. Myself and some of the other charter guides are taking from 1-4 salmon per day. Mostly using flashers and fly's. the range that is holding fish at Port Bay has been 100'- 150' of water. With the strikes coming 45'- 130; down. Not much of a picture for bait and fish. But if you put your time in the fish will come. There are some silver fish being taken. Also we treat our customers to great smallmouth bass fishing. With plenty of 2.5-4.0 lb. bass. Get your chores done around the house and come catch some memories at Port Bay and Lake Ontario, Capt. Frank DeNoto |

| Due to the Northeast winds that have been hitting the shoreline of our region, the salmon fishing has been put on hold with only a few salmon and trout being taken. The water temperature is so twisted around that we have been fishing 20'-40' down. The surface temp. is anywhere from 60.0 to 53.0 degrees. there is no set thermocline to work, and the baitfish have been scarce. NOAA weather service has predicted more south and northeast winds for the next few days, which means more cold water. Hopefully the winds will switch back to Northwest and help build up a strike zone again. Also the smallmouth bass fishing has been shut down with the serge of cold water. Some bass were floating on the surface in shock. Try fishing the bays, to catch the smallmouth bass. Good Luck. Capt. Frank and Charlie DeNoto |

| Well we waited long enough for some Chinook salmon to appear, but the past few days fishing from Fair Haven to Sodus Bay in 100-250' of water there has been mature salmon taken. The newest technique has been flasher and fly rigs. The sportfishermen from the past late 70's and early 80's use to run these. Well their back and doing a fine job !!!!!! The fish have been taken from 75-120' down and with long leads from the dipsy divers. A few nice brown trout and some smaller ones have been getting caught also. With gentle care you can release these fish to catch again next season. Also in heavy supply have been smallmouth bass in 40-18' of water in these same areas. Crawfish are still the best bait, but nightcrawlers are starting to work well. Take advantage of this nice weather and enjoy Lake Ontario. Good Luck Capt. Frank and Charlie DeNoto |

| Here is the latest report from Port Bay, Lake Ontario. We had an upwelling last week which kept plenty of anglers fishing the 40-80' range with brown trout action to be had. There were plenty of stocked browns about 1 lb. taken, with care you could release them for the future. Offshore there has been some chinook salmon taken, 12-25 lbs. Some taken on cut-bait, flashers and fly, and northern king spoons. from 60-135' down. The water-flea has shown up heavy. Use of fleaflicker line or heavy 30-40 lb. test seems to help. Smallmouth bass action has been good, crawfish and minnows are the best for action so far. The bass have been from 6-35' anywhere along the Port Bay-Fair Haven and Sodus Point shoreline, the last North/West blow has seem to taken the moss off the bottom. With summertime in the final month or so, take the family out for a fun filled weekend along the Great Lake Ontario !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Salmon are still hitting in the Wellington area. The days are spotty with a few being taken. Most fish are in the teens but some in the high 20's and low 30's have been gotten. Cut bait seems to be the weapon of choice, but fish are still hitting the spoons. The Water fleas have moved in so use BIG line....... Baits at 80' to 110' seems to be producing the most.....good luck..... |

All were gotten on a Blue & Silver Nasty Boy at 88' over 145'. The next 2 weeks should be very well. Another Charter Operator Friend boated a 28 lbs King next to me after I called him and let him know I found some fish. the Water Fleas have not started as of yet, but I expect it won't be long.... | In our region of Lake Ontario, the salmon / trout fishing has been at a snails pace. Speaking with the NY state fish survey boat that works the south shore of Lake Ontario, Doug said that the whole lake is in the same mode. We are working hard to catch some fish. The past week I've been taking some brown trout 8-12 lbs. salmon 9-18 lbs. with a few lake trout mixed in. The most action has been from 100-250' of water. That is where you will find the bait fish. The smallmouth bass in our region has been productive. fishermen are using jigs and softshell crawfish for the best results. Enjoy the nice summer weather and take the family to Lake Ontario for a great outing, and before long the action will be in high gear. Capt. Frank |

| As of June 15th 2002, The shoreline of Lake Ontario..from Port Bay - Sodus Bay had upwelled. The shoreline temperature was 50.0. With the overcast skys the charter boats were fishing brown trout, pulling spoons was the most productive lures. Smallmouth Bass season opened today, I seen about 10 boats fishing for them. The bass are still carrying eggs, with the cool spring I don't think they've spawned yet. I never spoke to anybody who might have fished offshore. Good Luck fishing Capt. Frank |

There are brown trout near shore, but the water is clear and you can't trick them in that water. The baitfish in their stomachs is sticklebacks and alewifes. Lake trout have been caught on the surface also. Not much action on brown trout in the shallow waters. With the winds from the west/north west.... there has been alot of moss floating on the surface which "bugs up your swivels" on your lures. When you troll the shallow depths, 6-15' of water the smallmouth bass have been very active. They are spawning now and strike any stickbait that passes by. In side Port Bay fishermen are enjoying perch fishing I hope this tunes you into our region of the lake. Hope to see you out there. Capt. Frank |

The shoreline has good color and hungry brown trout were on the bite. Using stickbaits, from thundersticks, rapalas,AC Shiners. Color wasn't an issue. The shoreline of the lake is warmed up to 47-48.0 degrees. Using stickbaits there are a few brown trout around. Trolling offshore hasn't produced much trout or salmon yet. I caught one Coho from the surface in 150' of water. There are some Lake Trout around. | Port Bay is safely dredged open for the spring season. Charles DeNoto Jr. who keeps the channel open at Port Bay, for the Port Bay Improvement Assoc. opened the channel on Thursday the 28th of March. The surface temperature in the Port Bay area was 39.0 to 43.0 There was plenty of color to the shoreline. we took the boat out for a test run and washed off some dusty stickbaits. We caught one brown trout, dropped one at the boat. And had 4 other strikes. There was no bait in the trouts stomach. Another boat working the shoreline, took two browns and released a 7-8 lb. Walleye that hit in about 4' of water. There were no other boats working the area around Port Bay - East Bay. I'm sure everyone was home celebrating Easter with their family's. Well I'm sure that next weekend will bring plenty of fishermen out for some Lake Ontario action. One other note the perch are still nibbling in the bay. I talked to some fishermen that were doing quite well using nightcrawlers. |

| Well the fishing season is winding down for me. Monday September17th,2001, We trolled the 100-125' range off of Port Bay. Not much bait or fish on the screen, we caught one mature Chinook Salmon on the dipsy diver pulling a dodger and fly combination. About one hour later we caught a mature Coho Salmon trolling lead core line with a #4 j-plug. We trolled about one hour more, then pulled the plug on the Salmon fishing and switched over to fishing live bait for smallmouth Bass. The action there was in 25-16' of water. With the surface temperature of the lake starting to drop off, it will only be a few more weeks before we start planner board fishing with stick baits for steelhead and brown trout. So don't put the boats away yet, Lake Ontario has alot of action to come. Capt. Frank and Capt. Charlie DeNoto |

| Just got back from the river there were fish everywhere at the dam. Both sides had fish everywhere . My freind and I hooked fish all day . Salmon , steelhead no browns though. We kept one male salmon thirty pounder nice and silvery . My buddy hooked a big steelie , he broke water at least five times, then spit the hook . One older fellow next to us hooked one the most beautiful cohos I've ever seen. They also hooked a many number of fish. They to only kept one big silver king. The fish are definately here . Happy fishing. Dave T |

| I just came back from the river . The only fish being caught were up at the west side spillway . The water is barely flowing alot of fish are traped in holes . I saw to many illegal tactics being used . Don't fishermen realize , Shure these fish die after they spawn . At least give them a chance to spawn first . This is why everyone I talk to are complaining about , why the numbers are way down . PLEASE let these fish spawn first ,then you can snag the hell out of them as far as I'm concerned Dave T |

| I heard the canadian geese honking this mourning.Maybe they know that cooler weather is comming . Saw some nice silver salmon caught today on the high wall , one was actually caught leagaly. There are still alot of kings being caught up at the west side spillway, nice and silvery fresh. I saw one brown caught ,barely legal size . Well at least I saw one caught . He was caught on the east side directly across from bridie manor. It still going to be awhile , we are supposed to get some cooler weather and rain next week . The fishing should really pick up. Just remember the later they run ,the longer we get to fish this year. Dave T |

| There are a few reports of kings in the river as well as some browns. fishing is best in the lake. One release yesterday, one fish 25 lb king female on a silver cigar. We fished for five hours . My opinion is that it will be another week or two before the big run starts. DAVE T |

July 05th,2001...Matt Iatridis and family took home 3 nice salmon and 1 steelhead. After a mild cold front pushed threw the area, with a 2' chop on the lake all morning. We fished in 700' feet of water off Port Bay, and found bait and fish in our area. Matt was happy at the end of the day,to stay offshore and catch these nice fish. The temperature offshore is 52.0 down 50' and all the bait and fish were from 25-60' down. Closer to shore, the prefered temp. is down 100-140',so get ready to troll slower with shorter leads to get to that level. Good Luck this weekend. Capt.Frank and Charlie DeNoto |

| The Fourth of July didn't pack much punch for the sportfishing off of Port Bay. With a Southwest breeze most of the morning, the lake is turned up. I fished the deep water 500' plus offshore. The surface temperature was 52.0 degrees. We caught 5 rainbows, releasing 2 of them, and had 3 other releases. There is no sign of bait out there. The Rainbows that we kept had flies in their digestive tract. The water temperature in 150' of water is 55.0 degrees down 135' of cable, the south wind should start to raise the temperature. But one last thing to show you, attached will be a photo of a 21 lb. brown trout. Taken by John Romanski of East Stroudsburg, PA. This is why we all fish so hard!!!!!! Good Luck fishing, Capt.
